Craig Macintyre is the president of the Sunshine Coast branch of Surfriders Foundation Australia. The Sunshine Coast branch looks after an extensive stretch of pristine coastline from Caloundra to Noosa and on to Double Island Point. The foundation's Sunny Coast branch is a group of active volunteers dedicated to the protection and enhancement of local waves and beaches. Craig, a keen surfer, has been a volunteer with the group since 2008.
The branch keeps busy with regular beach clean-ups and dune care across the entire region. Main local campaigns include the award-winning 'Clean Up Double Island Weekend', run twice a year and regular 'School Education'. The branch co-ordinates and manages the iconic 'EcoChallenge' event run annually and also conducts environmental awareness and education presentations at local surf, music and community events.
This year the branch is organising two big beach clean-up camping weekends at Yeppoon and Double Island (October 7 to 9); co-organising Surfrider's National conference in Newcastle and the Eco Challenge Festival in Mudjimba in November.
Surfrider Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world’s oceans, waves and beaches for all people.
