Ubud Writers & Readers Festival - Informal SCIRWF Mentor 2016
Our festival was inspired by the annual Ubud Writers & Readers Festival in Bali - Southeast Asia's most celebrated literary event (www.ubudwritersfestival.com). The Ubud Writers & Readers Festival is the major annual project of the not-for-profit foundation, the Yayasan Mudra Swari Saraswati. It was first conceived of by Janet DeNeefe, co-founder of the Foundation, as a healing project in response to the first Bali bombing in 2003 and held its inaugural festival in October, 2004 with the theme: “Through Darkness to Light”.
“The Ubud Writers & Readers Festival supports the strengthening of cultural bonds between Indonesia and Australia. As such, the UWRF is happy to act as an informal mentor to the inaugural Sunshine Coast International Readers and Writers Festival which shares our ethos of creating open spaces for dialogue across cultural and geographic divides. The UWRF Founder and Director, Janet DeNeefe, accepts SCIRWF's invitation to attend the SCIRWF launch and to officially open the Sunshine Coast International Readers and Writers Festival. We hope this creates further opportunity between Australian and Indonesian writers, artists and creatives to collaborate, share and unite.”
