Cool Coolaborators

Horizon

THIS is serendipity as its finest! The Oxford Dictionary defines “serendipity” as “the occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way: ‘a fortunate stroke of serendipity’.”

Two amazing events are taking place at Coolum Beach during the staging of our Inaugural 2016 Sunshine Coast International Readers and Writers Festival in September. This was not planned nor envisioned, but the organisers involved got together at a real ‘round table’ meeting in April this year and agreed to work “coolaboratively” together as we all have Coolum, the Sunshine Coast and creative expression at our hearts.

These two colourful, vibrant and exciting events are:

  • Horizons Sunshine Coast – festival of arts and culture. This is a new Sunshine Coast Council initiative – a region-wide cultural arts event that will celebrate the creative energy of the region through light, colour, place and all things creative. The festival will enliven the Sunshine Coast region from September 2 to 11 with 10 days of exciting, colourful and creative events with broad artistic appeal. In partnership with the community, a broad program ranging from contemporary art and new media exhibitions to film, literature, performance, street art and more will be held at various locations throughout the region. Horizons SC runs in Coolum Beach from September 5 to 11. SCIRWF is an independent NFP INC Association and not a Sunshine Coast Council Horizons' initiative.
    • Unframed - 2016 This event is a curated ‘art in public place exhibition’ with site-specific installations of artwork through the laneways and buildings connecting Jack Morgan Park to David Low Way at Coolum Beach in September. Pedestrian areas can make art activity more accessible with the existence of visual aesthetics allowing the quality of the space to increase, creating participation and interaction whilst broadening the limits of art. The project aims to creatively awaken community interest in our public and private spaces and create discussion on connectedness through the installation of art in public and private places that are accessible by the community.
