He has also been a regular cartoonist for several magazines and designed the labels for Providence Vineyards in northern Tasmania.

Richard illustrated Anna Tullemans and Rhonda Dixon’s successful book on children’s behavioural difficulties, How to Stop Your Words Bumping into Someone Else’s, which has been enthusiastically received by carers and educators. His illustrated books include A Tale of Two Turtles, A Whale’s Tale, Hannah Meets a Dragon and Martha the Aeronaut. Richard has written and illustrated eight novels for young adults: The Wealth, Dragon Stalkers and six books in The McAlister Line series. Richard works with most traditional art media, photographs and digital graph programs.

“I was born in Swindon, England and emigrated to Australia with my family when I was 15. On leaving school I served with the RAAF as a pilot, flying C-130 Hercules planes and Iroquois choppers, including an operational tour in Vietnam. After 9 years I joined Ansett Airlines and piloted beautiful planes including the Boeing 727, 737 and 767. I stayed with the company until its close in 2001 then moved to the Sunshine Coast, Queensland where I spent four years training Singapore Airlines cadets on the Learjet 45, based at the Sunshine Coast Airport. I left flying in 2007 and enrolled at the University of the Sunshine Coast to study visual arts, design and creative writing. I graduated with a bachelor degree and diploma of visual arts in 2009. So now I'm an author and illustrator. I live on the Sunshine Coast with my wife, Judy. We have twin daughters, Sally and Elizabeth.

I like to watch action movies and listen to the lost genre of '60s guitar instrumentals. Judy and I travel extensively and I incorporate many of the places we have visited as settings for my novels.”
